I don’t know anyone who has not experienced a painful life event, trauma, loss, or betrayal. Do you?

All of us have had one or maybe many challenging experiences that have rocked our world, and left wounds in our hearts and imprints in our cellular makeup. Often these wounds have created faulty or negative core beliefs. And unconsciously we operate from these daily.

Here are some examples:
– Death of a loved one including a pet
– A breakup of a significant relationship including divorce
– Job loss
– A disabling accident
– Assault, including sexual assault
– Abuse, including physical, emotional, verbal, domestic

And how could we not have feelings associated with these wounds? Sometimes – even often – we don’t even realize this. We might be afraid of the big emotions from these wounds. So, we stuff them down, run, or hide from them, and use substances including food to keep them at bay, or we put on a big, thick, protective outer layer so we’ll never be
hurt again.

Sound familiar?

The main reason I became a therapist was that personally, I experienced such profound relief from the many wounds of my earlier life through therapy – and I wanted to offer that to others, the feeling of being truly seen by a compassionate other. I’ve been doing that for thirty years.

Healing our emotional wounds allows us the freedom to create lives of our own design, to fulfill our dreams, to meet our goals, our passions, and our purpose.

Some strategies for healing from emotional wounds:
– Identifying negative core beliefs
– Naming one’s feelings about those beliefs
– Using breath to locate where in the body painful feelings are held
– Mindfulness practices
– Cognitive behavioral exercises
– Talking – to me who will compassionately and gently sit with you and bear witness to your pain
